MEET RAHUL GARABADU
A Proven Fighter
When Georgia Republicans rigged our district maps, Rahul sued and won. When conditions inside a Georgia county jail turned deadly, he held authorities accountable. When daycares turned away toddlers with disabilities, he made sure families got justice. Rahul hasn’t just fought for Georgians, he’s won for Georgians.
The son of Indian immigrants, Rahul grew up watching his parents sacrifice so much so that he could pursue his dreams. A proud product of Georgia public schools, Rahul went on to graduate from Georgetown University and Harvard Law School.
After Harvard Law, he could have gone anywhere. But Rahul came home to Georgia to dedicate his career to civil rights. As an ACLU lawyer, he fought to protect the right to vote. As a civil rights prosecutor, he fought for justice to make sure everyone had a fair shake. And when Donald Trump’s cronies took over the Department of Justice and dismantled civil rights enforcement, Rahul refused to sacrifice his values. He left the job he loved because his principles mattered more.
Now he’s running for District 7 to fight for you.
Today, Rahul lives in Norcross with his wife, Julia, a physician. He is running for State Senate to protect our community and make sure Georgia is not only a place to live, but a place to thrive.
PRIORITIES
-
As a millennial, Rahul has seen firsthand how the American Dream has become increasingly out of reach. Groceries are too expensive, rents are too high, and owning a home has become impossible for many because of private equity firms and corporate landlords buying up homes. While Republicans have focused on providing tax breaks for big corporations, Rahul will fight to make housing more affordable for the middle class and make sure Georgia prioritizes its working families.
-
Rahul has dedicated his career to protecting the right to vote. In 2021, Rahul sued the State of Georgia and won when it tried to gerrymander our maps and weaken the power of Black voters. Rahul has prevented thousands of voters from being unlawfully kicked off the voter rolls. And he has ensured that a number of polling locations across the state stayed open despite Republicans’ attempts to shut them down. In the Senate, he will combat Republicans’ efforts to gerrymander maps just like he did as a private citizen, repeal Georgia’s anti-voting bill (SB202), and will fight to pass a state level Voting Rights Act to protect Georgians’ access to the ballot.
-
As the husband of a physician, Rahul has seen how the cost of healthcare has impacted families across the district. Too many families are one healthcare crisis away from financial ruin. Rahul will fight to expand Medicaid in Georgia, close the coverage gap, and lower the crippling costs of healthcare in the state. He will also fight to repeal Georgia's 6-week abortion ban and restore a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions.
-
Georgia’s technological growth cannot come at the expense of families or our natural environment. Data centers consume immense amounts of electricity and water, put massive strains on our power grid, drive up monthly utility bills for everyday ratepayers, and deplete local water supplies. Rahul will enact common-sense regulatory guardrails to ensure that data center development is sustainable, responsible, and accountable to the communities hosting them. Rahul will also protect consumers by ensuring massive tech companies pay their fair share for necessary grid upgrades rather than shift the financial burden onto working families.
-
Rahul believes that every child deserves a world-class education regardless of their zip code. He is committed to fully funding our public schools, raising teacher salaries to attract the best educators, and fully funding the HOPE scholarship. By expanding access to early childhood education and vocational training, Rahul will ensure the next generation is prepared to lead in the modern workforce.
-
As masked ICE agents descend on our communities to wreak havoc, it is more important than ever to have a civil rights champion in the State Senate. As the son of immigrants, Rahul knows firsthand that immigrants make our community stronger and safer. He also knows that immigrant communities are vulnerable to government overreach. In the legislature, he’ll fight to protect our communities, stand up to Donald Trump’s attacks, and ensure Georgia remains safe for everyone regardless of their background.
-
Public safety requires a balanced approach that combines accountability with community trust. Drawing on his experience as a civil rights prosecutor, Rahul will advocate for common-sense gun safety laws and universal background checks. He is dedicated to funding mental health services and crisis intervention programs to address the root causes of crime while keeping every neighborhood secure.
-
Addressing the climate crisis is essential for protecting Georgia’s natural beauty and building a sustainable economy. Rahul will champion the transition to clean energy by expanding solar infrastructure, incentivizing electric vehicle adoption, and expanding mass transit. By investing in green jobs and resilient infrastructure, he aims to make Georgia a national leader in environmental stewardship and climate innovation.
